La Jolla, California—October 29, 2024. SCAN Health Plan, one of the largest Medicare Advantage plans in the country, has awarded a $10,000 grant to La Jolla Meals On Wheels to pay for program expenses for its Friendly Visitors Program, announced La Jolla Meals On Wheels Program Director Jane Semelsberger. Started in 2013, the Friendly Visitors Program offers free one- to two-hour weekly visits at home by compatible volunteers.

La Jolla Meals on Wheels honored longtime volunteers at a luncheon May 18 at the Mission Bay Yacht Club.
The nonprofit provides meals and visits to homebound senior citizens and disabled people in La Jolla and nearby neighborhoods in University City.
Among the honorees at the lunch were Barbara Rice for her 45 years of delivery service for La Jolla Meals on Wheels, along with Gary and Dawn Vettese (30 years) and Ted and Terri Haas (20 years).
