SCAN Health Plan awards La Jolla Meals On Wheels funding for its Friendly Visitors Program
La Jolla, California—October 29, 2024. SCAN Health Plan, one of the largest Medicare Advantage plans in the country, has awarded a $10,000 grant to La Jolla Meals On Wheels to pay for program expenses for its Friendly Visitors Program, announced La Jolla Meals On Wheels Program Director Jane Semelsberger. Started in 2013, the Friendly Visitors Program offers free one- to two-hour weekly visits at home by compatible volunteers.
“This generous grant will be used to partially pay for the position of the Friendly Visitors Program Director as well as mileage expenses for this position,” said Semelsberger. She explained that this position includes visiting local current and prospective clients one-on-one and at senior group facilities.
“Through this Friendly Visitors Program as well as our Senior Nutrition Program which offers healthy home-delivered meals, we support the welfare of homebound, vulnerable seniors,” added Semelsberger. “We are very grateful to SCAN Health Plan for their generosity.”
SCAN Health Plan is one of the nation's foremost not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plans, serving more than 285,000 members in California, Arizona, Texas and Nevada. Independence at Home, a SCAN Health Plan community service, provides vitally-needed services and support to seniors and their caregivers.
Since its founding in 1974, La Jolla Meals On Wheels has served over 850,000 meals to over 1,900 clients.
